# K-Plex
> K-Plex makes filename search and the current note’s Obsidian-known relationships available while indexing continues. Later starts reuse the local graph cache; full validation can take longer on large vaults.
**K-Plex (Knowledge Plex)** is an ontology-driven knowledge navigator for Obsidian. It turns relationships already expressed in your Markdown notes, properties, and vault structure into a spatial view you can explore and edit. The meaning of a relationship helps determine *where* it appears—not just how it looks.
At its heart is the **Idea Compass**: focus on one note, then look **north** for origins and parents, **south** for children and where an idea leads, **west** for friends and supporting connections, and **east** for challengers and transformative connections. As you navigate, these directions retain their meaning, helping you reason about your knowledge in context.
**Explore, connect, and reshape your knowledge.** Drag notes from Obsidian's file explorer into the Plex to navigate or create relationships. Drag existing related nodes between directions to reorganize your knowledge. Open notes for editing without leaving the graph, use Graph Lenses to focus on what matters, or let Wander take you through connected ideas.
K-Plex is designed for people who want to *move through* their notes rather than stare at an entire vault at once: follow a parent, compare challengers, see siblings, open a related document beside the graph, expand a note into sections, or temporarily reshape the Plex with Graph Lenses.
> Warning: K-Plex is a new plugin and is still undergoing real-world testing. Bugs and unexpected behavior are possible. Before using K-Plex to create or modify relationships between important notes, I strongly recommend trying it first on a small set of test notes. As with any plugin that can modify your vault, keep a current backup of your data.
## Why K-Plex?
Large graph views can quickly become dense and hard to navigate. K-Plex uses the **Idea Compass** to show a structured neighborhood around the current note. Configured ontology and relationship evidence guide the direction of connections, rather than treating link types as styling alone. Right-click a connection and choose **Connection details…** to inspect the ontology and sources behind its placement.
That makes the graph useful as a working surface:
| Relationship | Position |
| --- | --- |
| Parents | above |
| Children | below |
| Friends / Previous | left |
| Challengers / Next | right |
| Siblings | separate peripheral area |
The same relationship keeps the same spatial meaning as you move from note to note. You can therefore build a mental map of your knowledge without depending on a force simulation.
## Requirements
- Obsidian **1.13.0 or newer**
- Desktop, tablet or mobile
- Desktop if you want to use Obsidian pop-out windows
K-Plex uses its own plugin ID, so you can keep ExcaliBrain installed while migrating your settings.
## Getting started
