# Bully Remake — Unreal Engine 5.8 **A one-to-one port of the original *Bully: Scholarship Edition* to Unreal Engine. 1080p, 45 FPS, playable anywhere. Bring your own copy. This is original code.** An **unofficial, non-commercial fan project**, built in public, by AI, on a Mac — because we love this game. "One-to-one" is the goal we measure against, not a finished product: what's here today is the academy grounds, the Day One opening slice, and some new experiments the original never had (talk to any NPC with your actual voice, powered by an LLM, and fight anyone on campus). **This is an experiment you can try and build on, not a finished remake. There is no promise of a full-game release, complete campaign, or release date.** **You need your own legally obtained, installed PC copy of Bully: Scholarship Edition. Buy it — seriously, buy it, it's one of the best games ever made and Rockstar deserves the money. Do not pirate it. No original game assets are included here and none ever will be.** The importers read *your* installed copy on *your* machine and everything generated stays local. ## Built with AI, proudly, in the open Total transparency, because we think this is the interesting part: - **Almost everything in this repository was written by AI, on Macs.** The orchestrating agent is **Claude (Claude Code, Fable 5)**, with Opus 5.5 / Sonnet 5.5 / Haiku 5.5 subagents doing builds, critiques, and legwork. The human's job was direction, playtesting, taste, and saying "no." - **Timeline:** repo created **2026-10-15**. Phase 0 — world import, Jimmy's locomotion, doors, ambient students, audio decoding, the mission framework, melee combat, an in-engine cutscene — landed in the first **4 days**. The AI NPC conversation system (LLM dialogue, per-NPC long-term memory, voice replies, push-to-talk speech input) and campus-wide brawling landed on **day 5**. Development is ongoing. - **Hardware:** an M3 Ultra Mac Studio (heavy lifting: imports, renders, headless test runs) and an Apple Silicon MacBook (play, iteration). No PC was involved in building this Mac-native UE build. - **The original game runs on Mac via CrossOver** — that's how we installed the Steam PC edition locally for the importers to read, and how we capture reference footage of the real game to compare against. - **In-game AI stack** (all swappable in `Config/NPCChat.json`, bring your own API keys): an OpenAI-compatible LLM endpoint for NPC dialogue and memory summarization (we run MiniMax M2.7-highspeed; a local model works too), Fish Audio for per-character NPC voices, and local whisper.cpp for push-to-talk speech input — your mic audio never leaves your machine. - **Other tools:** Unreal Engine 5.8, custom Python importers written for this repo (world, skeletal meshes, 4,374 animation clips, XACT audio), and our own reverse-engineering notes in docs/re-notes/. You can give this repository to a coding agent and ask it to help set up the available content on your own computer. Read the re
