# VidGrab
A video downloader for iPhone. Paste a link, pick a quality, done. Or open the built-in browser, play a video, and tap the Download button that pops up on it.
I made this because I wanted something simple that just works on my phone, without jailbreak tweaks or a pile of extra packages to install.

## What it can do
- Download from YouTube and lots of other sites, up to 4K when the site has it
- Browse sites inside the app and grab whatever video is playing, and copy a video's direct link
- Ad blocker in the browser
- Run up to 10 downloads at the same time
- Saves videos as MP4 so they play right away and can go into Photos
- Save just the sound as MP3 or M4A
- Keeps YouTube videos in their original language instead of a dubbed track
- Favorites you can add, rename and rearrange
- Clear the cache by hand or automatically every time the app opens
- A "Fix playback" button for videos that won't play properly
- Folders in Downloads: name them, pick any color, and move videos in
- Storage card in Downloads that shows free space like iPhone Settings
- Choose Download or Stream: stream plays right away in the built-in player, which has a download button to keep the video
- Built-in player with swipe gestures
- Auto subtitles made on your phone, no internet needed
 - Best quality may make the phone hot or warm. Balanced or Fast is safest. Subtitles are not 100% accurate.
- Import videos from Files
- Repairs broken streams so the video still turns into a playable MP4
## Install
1. Go to the Releases page and download the latest `VidGrab.ipa`.
2. Install it with TrollStore, or any sideloading app you already use.
Works on iOS 15 and newer. No jailbreak needed.

## Credits
VidGrab wouldn't exist without **yt-dlp**. It's the engine that does the real work of finding and downloading videos from all these sites. Huge thanks to the yt-dlp developers and everyone who keeps it working as sites change. If a site breaks, VidGrab can update yt-dlp from Settings, so fixes from their team reach you quickly.
For auto subtitles, thanks to **whisper.cpp** by Georgi Gerganov and the ggml authors (MIT), which runs the speech model on the phone, and to **OpenAI Whisper** (MIT), the model it is based on. Model files are hosted by Hugging Face.

- Python for iOS by BeeWare, which lets yt-dlp run on iPhone (PSF License)
