**A visual designer, live preview and installer for Home Assistant themes** Live preview | Installation | Features | Theme colors and card mods | Environment Doctor | Configuration | Development --- ## Overview HATS (Home Assistant Theme Store) is a Home Assistant app and visual theme studio. It helps you find a theme, see it on a realistic dashboard, adjust it, and install it without editing YAML by hand. It runs in three ways: - **Home Assistant app**, through Ingress, connected to your own instance. - **Desktop app** for Windows, macOS and Linux, with no Home Assistant needed. - **Preview website**, a read-only page that previews any public GitHub theme repository. --- ## Live preview Try HATS in your browser at **homeriz.github.io/hats**. Nothing is installed and the page cannot reach your Home Assistant. To preview a theme from any public GitHub repository, click **GitHub** in the top bar and paste the repository link, or open a link directly: [code] For example, the iOS dark mode theme or Stell Blue with Colors. - `repo` is `owner/repo` or a `github.com` or `raw.githubusercontent.com` link. Other hosts are ignored. - `theme` picks one theme from a repository that has several, by name or id. Without it the first one is shown. - Wallpapers that a theme embeds as `data:image` or loads from `/local/...` are found and shown when the repository contains them. - The page is read-only. It offers no import, create, duplicate or delete, and it does not keep the themes you open. - HATS hosts none of the themes. It reads the files straight from the author's repository, so themes without a license are never copied or stored. A theme author can add a badge to their README. HACS shows READMEs, so users can preview the theme before installing it: [code] GitHub allows 60 unauthenticated API requests per hour per IP address, so a busy network can reach a rate limit. HATS then tries the usual `themes/ .yaml` locations. --- ## Theme colors and card mods The preview shows a theme with the real Home Assistant frontend and the same card mods you would have installed: card-mod or UIX, Bubble Card, Mushroom, Button Card, Layout Card and Stack-in-Card. A card mod only follows a theme if the theme has a setting for it. When a theme has no setting for a mod, **that mod falls back to its own hard-coded colors**, exactly as it does in Home Assistant. This is the most common reason a mod does not match the rest of a theme. | Mod | What it uses when the theme sets nothing for it | |---|---| | Mushroom Cards | Orange for active lights, green for fans, blue for other entities | | Button Card | The Home Assistant active state color, which is amber or orange | | Bubble Card | A fixed bright blue | To help previews look consistent, HATS fills in two colors when a theme does not set them: - **Accent color and Bubble Card button color** use the theme's active state color (`state-icon-active-color`), then its primary color, then its accent color. A theme that sets its own `ac
